Sophie’s paper on nickel oxy-hydroxide films for water electrolysis

Congratulations to Sophie Mellsop on her new paper in Electrochimica Acta. Sophie, along with co-authors Alister Gardiner and Bernt Johannessen, used in situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy to track the structure and composition of oxy-hydroxide films on nickel anodes both below and above the oxygen evolution potential in alkaline electrolytes. The work reveals how the Ni(OH)2/NiOOH films transform under electrochemical conditions — important fundamental knowledge for anyone developing alkaline water electrolysis anodes.
